Spirometry Training
performance + interpretation
Spirometry is the most commonly performed lung function test. It is performed and interpreted by a range of healthcare professionals. It’s essential that individuals performing or interpreting spirometry are trained and have demonstrated competence to do so to avoid misdiagnosis and poor disease management. Spirometry performance and interpretation are 2 separate skills but for professionals who need both skills we provide a combined into a 2 day course.
Our training
At Better Breath, we offer comprehensive spirometry training to help you become an expert in this essential pulmonary function test. Training content is in line with the latest ARTP Guidelines (2020), who set the national standards for spirometry according to NHS England/NHS improvement. As well as preparing you we can also provide support for individuals applying for ARTP accreditation. Content can be delivered face to face or online, bespoke content can be adapted on request.

Spirometry Interpretation
Spirometry protocol doesn’t vary greatly depending on the patient’s age, but it is important that the healthcare professional has the skills to make age appropriate modifications to their approach as well as understanding how physiology differs with age.
Some healthcare professionals may feel less confident with either adults or children and young people (CYP) and may opt for a half day top up course to focus on age specific content.

The national register is not compulsory, however NHSE advocate joining the register for quality assured standards of spirometry

ARTP no longer provide accredited courses or endorse individual training providers. Training must be ontained through independent providers. Better Breath Respiratory Diagnostics courses meet the requirements set out by the ARTP Spirometry Standards Document

According to ARTP, there are no strict guidelines. It is recommended that 25 per year is acceptable (1 every couple of weeks)
